  • Rest – Rest the injured area and avoid putting weight or pressure on it.
  • Ice – Apply ice to the area to reduce pain and swelling. Use an ice pack or a bag of ice wrapped in a towel and apply for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day.
  • Compress – If the injured area is swollen, wrap it with a bandage to help reduce the swelling. Make sure the bandage is not too tight, as this can cut off circulation.
  • Elevate – Elevate the injured area above the level of your heart to help reduce swelling. For example, if you injured your ankle, prop it up on a pillow.
  • Pain relief medication – You can take over-the-counter pain relief medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to help reduce pain.
  • Seek medical attention – If the injury is severe, seek medical attention from a healthcare professional.
